Continuing Laurel Touby‘s series of founder breakfasts (“Cereal Entrepreneurs”), we had a wonderful and lively discussion about how startups can best handle tough financial times.

One special guest was Andrew Weinreich, who founded the first true Social Network (“Six Degrees“), as well as dating company MeetMoi, and held board positions on many others.

The other major player was Stephen Messer, founder of Collective[i], a deep-learning model for retail and eCommerce.

Andrew and Stephen often had strongly contrasting views about the virtues of investors against bootstrapping. Since both are experienced veterans, it was great to hear the counterpoint.
