Over 10% of the population of Riker’s Island is under 18, and it’s one of the most violent prisons in the country. It’s shameful that we’re the nation with the largest percentage of its own population incarcerated… and even more so that teenagers “in the system” often got there from illiteracy – and stay there because of continuing illiteracy.

Working hard to break the cycle, Galinsky’s “LIT” program is a shining light in the lives of many of these youngsters, teaching them essential life-skills and giving them the confidence to succeed and stay out of jail. I am proud to be a supporter!
